Dear racers,

Thank you for making Staten CX 4.0 our best year ever!  With more participants, fans, and waffles eaten than ever before, this year’s race was a resounding success.  Staten CX will always be a grassroots race, which means that YOU are the reason it’s so fun every year.  I would also like to give a big thank you to the Sponsors, vendors, and especially our volunteers. We left Wolfe’s Pond Park cleaner than we found it, which is a testament to the NYCX community.

The Supercross Cup, NY’s longest running CX race, is back!  Two full days of racing minutes from New York City! Easily accessible via train at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow NY, it is one of the best courses in the northeast, and has over $8000 worth of prizes.

Beer is awesome.  Belgian Beer even more so.  It’s the very blood that pumps in the veins of cyclocrossers everywhere. So you can image how thrilled we are to be teaming up with NYC’s best Belgian beer bars, BXL Cafe and BXL East. Whether you are in the mood for a Trappist, Abbey or Belgian microbrew you’ve never heard of, they’ve got you covered. BXL’s Beer menu is carefully selected by their expert beverage director and they pride themselves on the fact that they serve beers that you will be unable to find anywhere else in NYC.

If you bike race and live in NYC, you might be familiar with one or both of BXL’s locations, They’ve been host to many of my bike race viewing parties over the years.  Speaking of which,  BXL proudly shows all major televised cycling events at their bars,  which is a WAY better place to watch a bike race when you consider that you normally watch it in your room alone, maybe on the trainer (depressing).

In addition to sponsoring our fine sporting event, BXL will be offering pre-race dinner special for SICX racers. Stop by either BXL location on the night before the race and load up on all-you-can-eat mussels, fries, and a glass of stella for $22.  For real.  NYC’s only cyclocross race will combine thrilling races, fun activities for kids, local food, and support for local charities 

 Staten Island, NY: New York City’s only cyclocross race, Staten CX is set to ride for the 4^th time on Saturday, November 12^th.  This year’s race is being held in conjunction with NY State Senator Andrew Lanza’s office, and will have a strong community focus.

Cyclocross is similar to mountain biking, but the race features short, technical courses of variable terrain, that is fun for racers and spectators alike. The Race will feature a race village full of local food, companies, and cycling brands.  Children’s races will be held alongside the adults’ races.  Cyclists of all ages and abilities,  including newbies, kids, amateur competitors, and professionals will engage in a race winding around beautiful Wolfes Pond Park (Hylan Blvd, in Staten Island). Set along the Atlantic Ocean, Wolfes Pond Park is a gem of the Staten Island community.  The event, produced and promoted by Sparkify, is free to attend.

“Unlike the traditional road races which fly by only once and in an instant, this fast, colorful and unpredictable race is above all, fun for racers and spectators alike.  Riders of all abilities, from novices to veteran European professional riders,  will have their skills tested on the short, challenging course, passing spectators every couple of minutes and chasing thrilling big money sprints,” said race director Christophe Jammet.  “We want Staten CX to be a showcase for both grassroots racing in Staten Island and NYC as a whole.”

Partnering with the race gives Senator Lanza the opportunity to mix his love of bicycles with an event that enriches the community. Profits from the race will be donated to various Staten Island-Based charities, including the Grace Foundation, the Staten Island YMCA, and the Staten Island JCC

With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves Staten Island’s health and well-being and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

CX racing in NYC was such a novel idea that it picked up national press coverage including CNN, The New York Times The Staten Island Advance, Cyclocross Magazine, Velonews, NYVelocity, and Cycling Reporter. The race has also features a host of diverse sponsors, including the Law firm of Lucarelli and Castaldi, LLP, BXL Cafe, NYC Velo, Sportique, Honest Tea, OrthoChick/ NYU HJD, and many more!
